Yaiza celebrates the long weekend with a new meeting of science and literature on Saturday, December 9 at the House of Culture

Former Oxford professor Roger Trend presents the guide book ‘Island of Volcanoes’ published by Ediciones Remotas. The symposium will be in English and Spanish at 12 noon, with the participation of the author and commentators from the field of culture and science.

The City Council of Yaiza and Ediciones Remotas invite the presentation of the book “The Island of Volcanoes” written by the geologist, geologist and former professor at the University of Oxford, among other universities, Roger Trend, a comprehensive investigation that comes to the light street with the seal of Ediciones Remotas in a double edition, English and Spanish, it is designed as a guide for all audiences to understand the geology and formation of Lanzarote practically. The literary and scientific meeting will be this Saturday, December 9 at 12 noon at the Yaeza House of Culture, with the participation of the author Roger Trend, the Tertullian Juan Carlos Carracedo, the volcanologist, the introduction to the book, the editor Mario Ferrer, and the journalist and writer Larry Yaskiel, who will also work as a translator.

“It is a delicate work that took many years of research, which we have the honor of discovering in Yaeza thanks to the cooperation we maintain with Ediciones Remotas, with whom we have concluded lucrative cultural publishing agreements,” highlights Oscar Noda, Mayor of Yaeza.


“Island of Volcanoes” is illustrated with photographs by Rubén Acosta and Christian Hansen and has an introduction by distinguished volcanologists Juan Carlos Caracedo and Valentin R. Troll. The author, Roger Trend, turns geology into a field that is as educational as it is poetic. Ediciones Remotas notes that it is “a work that combines simplicity and precision to explain a landscape that attracts both the European Space Agency and NASA as well as millions of tourists every year.”
