Why World Cup Fans Are Turning to Crystals to Manifest Victories, According to New Research

Online interest in crystals associated with luck and positive energy has surged during the 2026 World Cup, according to new research from crystal jewellery brand Tiny Rituals, highlighting how younger football fans are increasingly incorporating manifestation practices into their matchday routines.

Data sourced from Google Trends by Tiny Rituals found that worldwide searches for “Good luck crystals” rose by 1,011% during the week the World Cup kicked off in June. The research also showed that search interest in the term is currently 130% higher than it was at the same point last year and 70% above levels recorded in May.

The trend extends beyond crystals themselves. Searches for “World Cup manifestation” have increased by 197% since the start of the tournament, suggesting that a growing number of supporters are exploring alternative methods of boosting confidence and creating personal rituals ahead of key matches.

According to Tiny Rituals, social media platforms are playing a significant role in driving the phenomenon, particularly among younger audiences.

Benn Mendelsohn, CEO of Tiny Rituals, said the rise reflects a broader shift in how football supporters engage with traditional ideas of luck and superstition.

“Superstitions and good luck rituals have always been such a big part of football. Now, younger fans are turning to crystals and manifestation rituals as a way to feel calmer and channel good luck energy to their team before a big game.

“Manifestation techniques and crystals have found such a big audience on TikTok and Instagram in recent years, which is why many Gen Z football fans may be using crystals as part of their good luck rituals ahead of big World Cup games.

“For Gen Z, crystals are quickly becoming the new lucky football shirt.”

Football supporters have long relied on personal rituals before major fixtures, from wearing specific shirts and scarves to watching games from the same seat or following established pre-match routines. The latest research suggests that crystals are becoming part of this evolving culture, particularly among younger fans who have been exposed to manifestation trends through social media.

Mendelsohn noted that different crystals are commonly associated with different emotional benefits and forms of positive energy.

“Certain minerals are believed to interact with your body’s magnetic field, helping to eliminate negative energy and promote more grounding effects.

“For any World Cup fans looking to jump on the trend, amethyst is one of the most popular crystals for reducing nerves and stress.

“The crystal is associated with mental clarity and calmness, helping to reduce any negative or panicked thoughts.

“Tiger’s eye is another great crystal for any World Cup fans, helping to boost confidence and attract good luck.”

The research highlighted several crystals that fans are reportedly turning to during different stages of a match.

Amethyst is commonly associated with emotional balance and reducing anxiety before kick-off, while green aventurine is linked to attracting positive opportunities and good fortune. Lepidolite is often used by individuals seeking to reduce stress during high-pressure moments, such as penalty shootouts, while tiger’s eye is associated with confidence and optimism when supporters are concerned about the scoreline.

Mendelsohn explained the appeal of green aventurine among supporters seeking an additional dose of good fortune during the tournament.

“Known as ‘the stone of opportunity’, green aventurine is another crystal popular for attracting good luck, positive opportunities, and happiness. The crystal is also thought to ease stress and anxiety, which is perfect for any football fans before a big game.

“For fans feeling stressed during penalties, lepidolite is associated with reducing symptoms of stress and easing anxiety.”

With the World Cup now entering its knockout stages, the emotional intensity of matches is increasing, creating conditions that may further fuel interest in personal wellbeing rituals and manifestation practices.

According to Mendelsohn, the growing popularity of crystals among football fans is less about influencing results and more about providing emotional reassurance during tense moments.

“It’s exciting to see how Gen Z are getting involved with the World Cup by creating their own good luck rituals. Whether it’s carrying around crystals on match day or holding them during tense moments, crystals can be a helpful way for fans to feel more grounded before a match while also channelling positive energy to their team.

“While crystals won’t impact the outcome of a match, they can act as a comforting ritual for fans who want to feel calmer, more positive, and emotionally grounded before a big game.

“With the World Cup now in the midst of its knockout stage, it’s likely that searches for ‘good luck crystals’ will continue to rise during these stressful games.”

The findings suggest that while football superstitions remain a fixture of the sport, digital culture is reshaping how fans express them, with crystals emerging as a modern addition to matchday traditions for a new generation of supporters.
