Between Compostela and Havana San Isidro Street no. 178 collapsed in Old Havana, Cuban officials said Wednesday.

A note on the Havana government’s Facebook page indicated that the incident occurred around 8:00 a.m. Wednesday morning when “a side wall of an adjacent building fell onto the fiber roof of a light-roofed house.”

“As a result of the collapse, two injuries were reported, non-life threatening, they were treated at the Antonio Guiteras Polyclinic and later transferred to Calixto Garcia Hospital,” they said.

“Officials and organizations are assisting people affected by the collapse and assessing the associated damages,” they added, along with photos of the collapse site.

In recent days, at least three Cubans died in a tragic collapse in Old Havana.

“Cuba today honors two rescue workers who died on duty during the collapse of Lambarilla No. 362 in Old Havana,” the Cuban News Agency (ACN) said as it bid farewell to two of them.

“In the Necropolis of Colon in Havana, First Lieutenant Yondra Suárez López, 40, and soldier Luis Alejandro Llerena Martínez, 23, were decommissioned in a military ceremony,” the source said, accompanied by pictures.

According to an official note from MININT, “Shortly after the collapse, a second collapse of the building occurred, surprising the firefighters working at the scene and burying two rescue workers in the rubble.”

“First Lieutenant Yoandra Suárez López, a 40-year-old rescue and rescue technician, who served for more than 11 years and was one of Cuba’s first female rescuers, from Artemisa, as well as fighter Luis Alejandro died in the line of duty. Llerena Martínez, 23 years old, a resident of East Havana and He has been working as a professional since 2022,” added MININT.
