Trout set record at Angel’s Route of Blue Jays

TORONTO — Mike Trout hit a two-run homer to lead the Los Angeles Angels to a 12-0 rout of the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday.

Reid Detmers and four relievers combined for a six-hit performance. Joe Adel homered twice, Andrew Velasquez hit a two-run shot and Shohei Ohtani hit a two-run triple for the Angels, who came into the game after losing nine of 10 games.

Trout scored his 1,025th run with the Angels, hitting left-hander Yusei Kikuchi’s 27th home run in the eighth inning. With the home run, the star surpassed Garrett Anderson as the leading Angels hitter.

Adel hit a solo homer off lefty Kikuchi in the seventh and added two runs to reliever Whit Merrifield in the ninth.

With his two home runs he reached six and a half on the campaign.

Velasquez hit a two-run homer off right-hander Mitch White (1-4) in the third inning, giving him seven homers on the year. White gave up seven runs and eight hits in five innings.

For the Angels, Venezuelan Luis Rengifo is 5-1.

For the Blue Jays, Dominicans Vladimir Guerrero Jr. 5-1, Teoscar Hernandez 1-0, Raimel Tapia 3-0, Santiago Espinal 4-1. Cuba Lourdes Curiel Jr. 4-1. Mexico’s Alejandro Kirk is 2-1.
