Santo Domingo, R.D.

Los Tigras del Lici has announced the appointment of Tony Diaz as manager for the 2021-2022 season.

The announcement was made by team general manager Carlos Jose Lugo.

Antonio Manuel Diaz “Tony” is currently the Minnesota Twins’ third base coach in the Major League.

“Tony fits the profile we were looking for in the process of selecting our manager, and we hope his experience as an infield coach in the MLP and Dominican League will be key to the team’s aspirations for the crown,” the manager said. Lugo, quoted in a group press release.

“The evaluation process was difficult due to the quality of the candidates and finally the Tigers decided that what the baseball operations department understood was the best decision,” the manager said.

Diaz’s experience in the Dominican Baseball League was with Torres del Este, where he was the third base coach for the 2012-2013 season, the bench coach with Gigantes del Chibao, and the third in the 2015-2016 season.

He also served as the first base coach in the Colorado Rockies and Dominican Instructional League, where he was 18 years old. After the 2018 season, the duo appointed Diaz as their third base coach.

Biography

Diaz grew up in the Dominican Republic. He holds a bachelor’s degree in marketing from Florida International University. He played as a crossroads in the minor leagues until 1995 and played at the G.A. in Miami, Florida. Holmes worked as a baseball team manager at Prodac High School. Diaz served as Caspar Ghost’s attack coach from 2001 to 2006, taking over as manager in 2007.
