On the day in which the Church celebrates the feast of Saint Francis of Assisi, one year after the publication of the Encyclical of Pope Francis “Fratelli tutti”, the Meeting “Faith and science: towards COP26” will be held in the Vatican. .

Vatican City

This October 4 will be held in the Vatican the Meeting “Faith and science: towards COP26”, the UN Conference on the climate that will bring together religious leaders and scientists around an appeal to the participants in COP26, in program from October 31 to November 12 in Glasgow, Scotland. COP26 will be organized by Great Britain in collaboration with Italy before the Holy See and has been held together with it. It has been developed through monthly virtual meetings since the beginning of this year, in which religious leaders and scientists have been able to share their concerns and wishes for greater responsibility to the planet and to the change that is needed.

A joint appeal

This sharing has led to a joint appeal that will be signed by the religious leaders during their meeting at the Vatican on the morning of October 4, where Pope Francis will deliver the appeal into the hands of the Honorable Alok Kumar Sharma, President-designate of the COP26, and the Honorable Luigi Di Maio, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy. In the afternoon, a closed-door session will be held at the Italian Embassy to the Holy See.

The meeting program

The October 4 program includes, among other things, the initial reading of some passages from the religious leaders’ call to COP26. The religious leaders will then sign the appeal. After a moment of prayer and a greeting from the Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Pope Francis will speak at the meeting. In the afternoon – the Press Office of the Holy See also recalls – a closed session will be held at the Italian Embassy to the Holy See.
