They condemn the sale of “rallies” and appointments to register electric motorcycles in Cuba

Days before the deadline to register all types of electric motorcycles in Cuba, many Cubans denounced “rallies”, large queues and the sale of appointments at vehicle registrations across the country.

According to independent media Cubanate, the deadline for regularization of electric motorcycles and mopeds ends in a year, officials said. Owners who do not have the relevant license plate in the Registry of Vehicles (RV) will not be able to deliver from January 2024 and risk losing their entire investment at a time when traffic on the island is chaotic.

But many citizens are still unable to complete the procedure due to difficulties presented by RV offices, bureaucracy and resale of appointments to carry out this procedure.

They want to take a motorcycle from anyone without a license plate (…) They say they don’t know, but January is also difficult for cyclists,” said William Quintero Bubo, quoted by the media, Orange Tree when he was in the Arroyo registry.

According to an anonymous source from the patrol unit in Havana who spoke to Cubannet, drivers who drive around without a license plate or documents showing that the vehicle is in the process of getting one will face different obstacles.

A fine will be imposed if caught the first time. A second offense will result in suspension of the driver’s license, a third offense will result in a contempt case and impoundment of the vehicle. The law enforcement agency explained that if a driver does not have a driving license and has already been warned, they will skip the fine and directly report and confiscate the motorcycle.

Ultimately it’s for your own good; They complain if their motorcycle or bicycle is stolen, but the police can’t do much if they don’t have a way to identify the stolen items,” he added.

Lacking public transportation, many Cubans travel on electric mopeds, numbering more than 500,000 on the island.
