Spanish Civil Defense rescues migrants hidden in ruins and rubbish

(CNN) – This Friday the Civil Guard assisted 41 migrants who were hidden in containers and other vehicles in the port of Melilla with the intention of entering Spain illegally.

As described by the safety organization, all four were in a container filled with broken glass for recycling, which, in a journey that lasted seven hours, risked due to multiple cutting edges. Another person was found inside an airtight plastic sack containing toxic waste, especially to fly ash from the incinerator. In the first scene, he fears for his life when he notices a sluggish leg emerging from the bag, and the rescuer regains consciousness after being found in the ashes.

In these two months of 2021, the Civil Guard found a total of 1,781 people in the security zone of the port of Meville. Many of them, confirming from the arms company, have risked their lives by accessing swimming or hiding places in vehicles and platforms transported to the Iberian Peninsula.
