Sweden’s Prime Minister Stephen Lofven submitted his resignation letter to Parliament Speaker Andreas Norlan on Wednesday, approaching Finance Minister Magdalena Anderson with the honor of being the first woman to hold office in Scandinavian history.

Anderson also stressed that “the people of Sweden have great confidence.” “They want to see him as prime minister,” Lofven said after the Social Democrats elected him president last week after he resigned as party leader.

Anderson will become the new prime minister once his appointment is approved by parliament, although Norlan will have to first start contacts to determine which politician has the best chance of creating a new executive.
