Spain announced a few hours ago that the deadline for citizens of Spanish descent to apply for citizenship through the Law of Democratic Memory will be extended by one more year, to the end of 2025.

During a breakfast organized by the Europa Press Agency, the Minister of Regional Policy and Democratic Memory, Angel Victor Torres, gave good news to those who want to make this request.

Now, those interested have until the final months of 2025 to submit their national application, which reflects an extension of the deadline initially set by this law promoted by the government of Pedro Sánchez in October 2022. As many Cubans know, the deadline is scheduled for later this year.

So far, according to figures provided by the Spanish government, 69,000 people from around the world have become full Spanish citizens, most of them from Latin American countries.

A few days ago, the president of Spain's College of Administrative Managers, Fernando Santiago Ollero, provided details on the deadlines and documents required for applications for Spanish citizenship under the Democratic Memory Law.

The Spanish official noted that there was some skepticism on the part of applicants about the law's deadline, and that even if the law had expired, documents submitted later would be accepted as long as the request occurred within that period. validity of the Act.. Clearly now the same extension is less of a concern.

At the time, Santiago Ollero commented that there were efforts by several sectors of Spanish society to extend the law for another year, and for those interested “all that is required to be done before the deadline is to submit the documents. “We will set the date.”
