Shohei Ohtani signed the most lucrative contract in American sports history for 10 years and $700 million with the Los Angeles Dodgers this Saturday. Ken Rosenthal said the deal is a two-way player “The unprecedented salary includes deferrals. The deferrals were Ohtani’s idea to ease the luxury tax and cash flow burden. Cheaters And give the team the flexibility it needs to be as competitive as possible.

Ohtani’s contract with the Dodgers included “unprecedented” deferrals — the bulk of his salary. The deferrals were Ohtani’s idea to ease the Dodgers’ luxury-tax and cash-flow burdens, giving the team the flexibility it needs to be as competitive as possible, the source said.

In theory, the deal would pay Ohtani $70 million annually, though that amount varies greatly, with the Dodgers owing him more than a decade.

“To all Dodger fans, I promise that I will always do what is best for the team and give everything to be the best version of me. Until the last day of my playing career, I want to continue to fight not only for the Dodgers” but for the world of baseball. Some things cannot be conveyed in writing, so more on this in a press conference. I want to talk. thank you very much” Ohtani said on his Instagram account.
