The Republican Attorneys General Association is highlighting a new Michigan political advertisement as the organization expands a nearly $7 million campaign across 13 states ahead of November’s elections.

The advertisement comes from the Safer Michigan Fund, a group affiliated with RAGA, and focuses on the race for Michigan attorney general. The campaign presents public safety and criminal justice policy as central issues while supporting Republican candidate and career prosecutor Doug Lloyd.

“Fighting crime is on the ballot this November,” said RAGA Executive Director Adam Piper.

Michigan Attorney General Race Becomes Focus of RAGA Campaign

RAGA is seeking to draw a contrast between Lloyd and Democratic figures Eli Savit and Abdul Sayed, portraying their approaches to criminal justice and public safety as substantially different from those advocated by Republicans.

The organization describes Lloyd as a longtime prosecutor whose career has focused on victims and community safety. RAGA also points to his experience working in a politically competitive county as evidence that his approach to public safety can extend beyond traditional party divisions.

The political organization has also criticized Savit’s record as Washtenaw County prosecutor. According to RAGA, Savit supported no-cash-bail policies, declined to prosecute sex work and implemented policies affecting the prosecution of hallucinogenic drug offenses.

RAGA characterizes those policies as evidence of a more lenient approach to criminal justice. These descriptions and criticisms are political claims made by the Republican organization as part of its campaign messaging rather than independent conclusions.

The association has similarly criticized Sayed, arguing that his policy approach differs sharply from the public-safety platform it is promoting through Lloyd’s candidacy.

RAGA Commits Nearly $7 Million Across 13 States

The Michigan advertising effort is part of a significantly broader political investment by RAGA. The organization said it committed nearly $7 million in August to campaigns across 13 states, representing the first phase of its fall election strategy.

The spending includes digital and television advertising and is intended both to defend Republican-held attorney general offices and compete for positions currently held by Democrats.

RAGA’s investment supports Republican attorneys general in Iowa, Kansas, Georgia, Ohio, Florida and Texas. The organization is also directing resources toward Republican attorney general nominees in Arizona, Colorado, Minnesota, Michigan, Nevada, New York and Wisconsin.

The geographic scope of the spending highlights the growing national attention surrounding state attorney general elections. Although these races are decided at the state level, their outcomes can have broader implications for regulatory enforcement, consumer protection and litigation involving businesses and government agencies.

Attorney General Elections Carry Business and Regulatory Implications

State attorneys general hold significant authority in areas that directly affect businesses, including consumer protection, antitrust enforcement and investigations into corporate practices. They can also participate in multistate lawsuits involving major companies, federal regulations and government policies.

Changes in leadership can therefore influence enforcement priorities and regulatory approaches within individual states. For companies operating nationally, the political direction of multiple attorney general offices can shape the broader legal and compliance environment.

RAGA’s investment across 13 states indicates that the organization views these contests as an important part of the broader election landscape.

Public Safety Takes Center Stage in Michigan Campaign

In Michigan, RAGA’s strategy is focused heavily on prosecution and public safety. The organization is positioning Lloyd’s prosecutorial experience against the criminal justice approaches associated with his political opponents.

The campaign also illustrates RAGA’s broader strategy of combining state-specific political issues with national financial resources. By committing advertising funds before the final stage of the election season, the organization is seeking to establish its campaign themes and increase the visibility of Republican candidates.

Michigan is one of seven states where RAGA is supporting Republican attorney general nominees as part of its initial spending program. The Safer Michigan Fund advertisement represents one component of that broader national effort.

With nearly $7 million committed across 13 states, RAGA’s first phase of election spending signals that attorney general races will remain a significant focus for the organization heading into November, with public safety and criminal justice policy serving as central themes in its Michigan campaign.
