A detachment of nearly 50 Soldiers from the Oklahoma Army National Guard is preparing to deploy to the Middle East as part of ongoing United States operations aimed at strengthening regional security and international cooperation.
Members of the 745th Military Police Detachment, part of the 345th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion and the 90th Troop Command, were formally honoured at a farewell ceremony held on Tuesday at the Armed Forces Reserve Center in Mustang, Oklahoma. The event brought together family, friends, and military leaders to recognise the commitment and professionalism of the unit as they embark on a nine-month deployment.
The 745th Military Police Detachment will join Operation Spartan Shield, a key U.S. military initiative within U.S. Central Command’s operational area. The mission focuses on building the capacity of partner nations, enhancing regional stability, and ensuring readiness among allied forces stationed across the Middle East.
In her remarks at the ceremony, Lieutenant Colonel Samantha Pearce, commander of the 345th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, commended the Soldiers for their professionalism and service.
“You embody the very best of our organization,” said Lt. Col. Samantha Pearce. “Your dedication, courage and commitment to serve are what define our unit.”
Strengthening Regional Security
Operation Spartan Shield has been a longstanding strategic mission for the United States, maintaining a steady presence in the region to deter potential threats and strengthen partnerships. The Oklahoma Guard’s deployment underscores the continuing importance of cooperative defence efforts between Western and Middle Eastern allies.
While overseas, the 745th Soldiers will undertake law enforcement and security duties typical of military police operations. Their responsibilities will include maintaining order, enforcing military regulations, and supporting security protocols designed to protect U.S. personnel and installations in the area.
The deployment comes at a time when global security cooperation remains a key topic for defence analysts and policymakers alike. “I’m so proud of everything you’ve done and for everything you’re about to do,” said Maj. Gen. Thomas H. Mancino. “Stay alert and stay ready. Thank you, Soldiers, and thank you to the family members for supporting them.”
Military officials emphasised that family support remains a cornerstone of National Guard readiness. Many attending relatives spoke of the pride and emotional challenge that comes with deployment, a familiar experience for National Guard families across the United States.
Training and Readiness at Fort Bliss
Before departing for the Middle East, the Soldiers will undergo advanced pre-deployment training at Fort Bliss, Texas, one of the U.S. Army’s largest and most sophisticated training installations. The facility provides an environment designed to simulate operational conditions, allowing units to refine coordination, logistics, and tactical response.
The additional training ensures that personnel are fully prepared for the complex security environment they may encounter overseas. It also provides opportunities for interoperability exercises with other U.S. and allied military units involved in regional missions.
Expected Return and Continuing Commitment
Following their deployment, the unit is expected to return to Oklahoma in autumn 2026. Upon completion of their overseas duties, the Soldiers will reintegrate into civilian and Guard life, bringing valuable experience and leadership skills gained from their time abroad.
For the Oklahoma National Guard, deployments such as this reaffirm the organisation’s commitment to both state and national service.
