The Oil & Gas Workers Association (OGWA) has endorsed Republican candidate Jon Echols in his campaign for Oklahoma Attorney General, adding further momentum to his bid as he seeks to broaden support across key sectors of the state’s economy.

The endorsement was announced in Oklahoma City on Tuesday and marks another development in Echols’ campaign as he continues to assemble backing from political figures, industry organisations, and law enforcement groups across Oklahoma.

The OGWA, a grassroots trade organisation representing workers in the oil and gas sector, said the decision reflects its confidence in Echols’ ability to advocate for both energy workers and the wider economic interests of the state. The association describes its mission as working to “secure, grow, and sustain American oil and gas jobs and fighting for American workers.”

Energy remains one of Oklahoma’s most influential industries, contributing significantly to employment, tax revenues, and regional economic activity. As a result, support from organisations linked to the sector can carry political weight in statewide campaigns.

Energy sector support highlights economic importance of oil and gas

Responding to the endorsement, Echols emphasised the importance of the oil and gas industry to Oklahoma’s economy and the livelihoods of many residents.

“The oil and gas industry is critical to our amazing state. I am thankful for the endorsement of a great conservative grassroots organization like the OGWA. I appreciate all the amazing work they do and look forward to standing strong with the amazing men and women who work every day to keep Oklahoma and the nation powered.”

Industry groups have increasingly taken active roles in political endorsements, particularly in states where energy production plays a central economic role. In Oklahoma, the oil and gas sector remains a major driver of jobs and investment, meaning policy decisions around energy, regulation, and economic development often feature prominently in political campaigns.

For the OGWA, the endorsement signals alignment with Echols’ policy positions and leadership experience. In a statement released alongside the announcement, the association highlighted what it described as his engagement with everyday workers and his legislative background.

“Jon Echols understands the issues that are hurting hardworking Oklahoma families. Jon takes time to talk with us “average Joe” people, hears our concerns, and finds a way to address them. Jon has the endorsement of most Oklahoma sheriffs, and we agree with them. His experience working with all parties in the House of Representatives and legislation to hold criminals accountable prove Jon Echols will work for all Oklahomans.

Oil & Gas Workers Association proudly endorses Jon Echols for Attorney General.”

Long legislative career and leadership experience

Echols brings extensive experience from Oklahoma state politics. A fifth-generation Oklahoman, he previously served in the Oklahoma House of Representatives, where he built a reputation as a senior legislative leader.

During his tenure in the state legislature, Echols held the position of Majority Floor Leader for eight years, making him the longest-serving Floor Leader in Oklahoma’s history. The role involved managing legislative priorities, coordinating debate, and working with lawmakers across political lines to advance policy proposals.

Alongside his political career, Echols has also worked as an attorney and small business owner, a background he has frequently highlighted during the campaign as evidence of his experience in both the legal profession and the private sector.

Supporters argue that his legislative record and legal expertise position him well for the role of Attorney General, which oversees the state’s legal affairs and plays a key role in law enforcement coordination and regulatory oversight.

Coalition of endorsements continues to grow

The OGWA endorsement adds to a growing list of organisations and public officials backing Echols as the race develops. According to the association’s statement, Echols has also secured support from many county sheriffs across Oklahoma, reflecting a base of backing among law enforcement.

Political endorsements from industry organisations such as the OGWA often signal broader economic priorities within a state. For Oklahoma, where energy production remains central to economic stability, industry voices frequently play a role in shaping policy discussions and political alignments.

As the campaign progresses, Echols has framed his candidacy around themes of public safety, economic strength, and limited government. His campaign states that he is running for Attorney General with the aim of making Oklahoma “safer, freer, and stronger.”

With energy sector workers now publicly backing his bid, the endorsement underscores the continued influence of Oklahoma’s oil and gas industry in the state’s political and economic landscape.
