The Institute consists of approximately 60 researchers, 100 doctoral and postdoctoral fellows, 30 specialists, technicians, administrators and trainees, and 60 undergraduate students completing their bachelor’s thesis.

Since its establishment as an interdisciplinary institute in biological sciences, several lines of research in evolutionary biology and biotechnology in vertebrates and plants have been conducted at IBR; Molecular, cellular and structural biology of infectious diseases and neurodegeneration; Plant cell and molecular biology; Microbial physiology and genetics.
