Kentucky-born singer-songwriter and visual artist Hunter Flynn is preparing to take his Appalachian-inspired music across the United States with the “Back to My Roots Tour,” a multi-state run that will bring his blend of folk, country, rock and soul to audiences beginning this fall.
The tour is scheduled to open Oct. 1 at The Southgate House Revival in Newport, Kentucky, before traveling through cities across the South, Northeast and Midwest. Presale tickets begin Aug. 18 at 10 a.m. local time, while the general on-sale starts Aug. 19 at 10 a.m. local time.
The tour comes as Flynn continues to expand his presence on the live music circuit and prepares for the release of his debut full-length album later this year.
Tour Draws on Flynn’s Appalachian Heritage
Raised in Pulaski County, Kentucky, Flynn has made his Appalachian background a central part of his artistic identity. He describes his musical style as Appalachian Soul Music, combining regional storytelling traditions with elements of folk, country, rock and soul.
His songs cover themes ranging from love and loss to personal experiences and psychedelic influences. The “Back to My Roots Tour” takes its name from Flynn’s connection to Appalachian culture and the people and places that have influenced his songwriting.
That regional connection is reflected throughout the tour schedule, which includes several Kentucky appearances as well as performances across Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and Alabama.
After opening in Newport, Flynn will perform at The Loud in Huntington, West Virginia, on Oct. 8, followed by The Burl in Lexington, Kentucky, on Oct. 9 and Revival Asheville in Asheville, North Carolina, on Oct. 10.
Later in October, the tour moves into the Northeast with performances scheduled in Brooklyn and Albany, New York; Asbury Park, New Jersey; Warrendale and Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania; Portsmouth, New Hampshire; Somerville, Massachusetts; and Wayne, Pennsylvania.
Music Career Expands Ahead of Debut Album
Flynn began pursuing his music career more seriously following a life-altering car accident in early 2022, an experience that led him to focus more fully on his creative interests.
His debut EP, “Appalachian Soul,” arrived in May 2023 and helped establish the emotionally direct and stripped-back approach that has become associated with his music.
That same year, Flynn was named Featured Artist at the Master Musicians Festival in Somerset, Kentucky. His connection to the state’s music community grew further in 2025 when he was selected as an Artist in Residence at the Kentucky Music Hall of Fame.
Flynn has since performed at venues and festivals in the United States and Europe. As a live performer, he has shared stages with artists including Zach Top, Wyatt Flores, Jamie Johnson and Josh Meloy.
Alongside his own career development, Flynn has sought to support emerging performers and strengthen connections within the Appalachian arts community.
Back to My Roots Tour Continues Through December
The tour will continue into November with stops in Buffalo, Cleveland, Columbus, St. Louis and Indianapolis before returning to several Southern markets.
Flynn is scheduled to perform in Memphis and Maryville, Tennessee; Decatur, Georgia; Isle of Palms and Greenville, South Carolina; and Wilmington, North Carolina. He will return to Somerset, Kentucky, on Nov. 27 for a performance at The Virginia Theatre before appearing at Songbirds in Chattanooga the following night.
December dates include performances in Mobile, Alabama; Oxford, Mississippi; Nashville, Tennessee; Huntsville, Alabama; Menomonee Falls and Appleton, Wisconsin; and Jacksonville, Illinois.
The final currently listed performance is scheduled for Dec. 19 at Twisted Tree Music Hall in Jacksonville, concluding nearly three months of touring.
With a debut album also expected later this year, the “Back to My Roots Tour” represents another step in Flynn’s effort to broaden his audience while maintaining the Appalachian identity and storytelling traditions that have shaped his career.
