Canterbury Voices, Oklahoma’s largest auditioned symphonic chorus, has announced its 58th season, with a 2026-27 program featuring major choral works, holiday favorites, classical selections and a new free community singing event in Oklahoma City.
Canterbury Voices Opens 58th Season in October
The new season, titled Experience the Extraordinary, will be led by Artistic Director Dr. Julie Yu and will focus on the expressive range of choral music through performances spanning several musical traditions.
“What makes this season truly extraordinary is celebrating 58 years of Canterbury Voices inspiring Oklahoma City through the power of exceptional choral music.” says Yu. “Our season will take you on a journey, reminding us of the incredible, transformative power of the human voice.”
The season begins Friday, Oct. 16, at 7:30 p.m. with a program featuring three major works: Francis Poulenc’s Gloria, Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Five Mystical Songs and Igor Stravinsky’s Symphony of Psalms.
The performance will also feature the Oklahoma City Philharmonic and soloists, with a program centered on themes of faith, wonder and joy.
The BIG Sing Invites Oklahoma City Community to Participate
The following day, Saturday, Oct. 17, Canterbury Voices will partner with Civic Center Music Hall to present The BIG Sing, a new community-wide event.
The free program will invite members of the community to participate in a day of singing before a public performance.
“We’re thrilled to bring the first BIG Sing to our community,” said Pam Mowry, Canterbury’s Executive Director. “Music is a powerful connector, bringing people together from across our city and beyond to share in the joy of singing. The BIG Sing is a celebration of that connection — creating something greater than any one of us could create alone.”
Holiday Concert Returns in December
Canterbury Voices will continue its season Sunday, Dec. 6, at 7 p.m. with Hark! The Joyful Sound, its annual holiday program.
The Oklahoma City tradition will feature familiar seasonal music, including The First Noel, Let There Be Peace On Earth and The Christmas Song.
The concert will also include traditional holiday sing-alongs, giving audience members an opportunity to participate in the performance.
Choral Classics Scheduled for March
The season will continue March 6 at 7:30 p.m. with Choral Classics, a concert highlighting works from the established choral repertoire.
The program includes Norman Dello Joio’s A Jubilant Song, Johannes Brahms’ O Schöne Nacht! and Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Bogoroditse Devo.
The performance will focus on works representing different periods and styles while showcasing Canterbury Voices’ large-scale ensemble sound.
