An open educational space for comprehensive training

The educational institution founded in 1952, run by the Society of Jesus, teaches classes from the mother (3 years) to the fifth baccalaureate in sciences and arts. It was initially intended for boys only, but starting in 2000 it turned into a mixed school (men and women).

The name of the complex is a posthumous tribute to Jesuit Father Miguel Francisco Estrada Lemos, who left an indelible mark during his apostolic life in the Central American province and especially in the Javier Lyceum in Guatemala.

The Sports Center was blessed by the Provincial of the Company of Jesus in Central America, Father José Domingo Cuesta SG, who in turn, together with Father Julio Moreira SG, Dean of the School, cut the ribbon and unveiled the Deposition Memorial.

“The primary goal of building the Sports and Cultural Center is to provide open, safe and accessible educational spaces for the educational community, especially for students, which contribute to their comprehensive training in the various physical and human dimensions: motor, aesthetic, emotional, spiritual, moral, environmental and cognitive. Claudio Solis, General Director of the school, said: This work is currently the largest of its kind in the school environment in Guatemala.

From this date, as the director explained, it is intended to be used intensively and extensively, allowing for the development of skills to the maximum extent in various sports disciplines. He also indicated that this space will serve the school’s educational community. And other businesses that are part of the Jesuit network.

Among the opening activities was the participation of the marimba band composed of high school students from the school, who performed different musical styles, and the event culminated in the San Ignacio march.
