(CNN) – A police officer was killed Tuesday in a shooting outside the Pentagon, according to three police sources. The circumstances surrounding the shooting outside the Pentagon are not yet clear.

The Pentagon’s Security Agency, which oversees Pentagon security, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The Pentagon Security Agency said in a statement to Pentagon staff that the shooting happened at a bus platform on the Pentagon campus.

The lock has now been removed, the company announced Tuesday.

The Pentagon tweeted, “The Pentagon has been unlocked and reopened. Pavement 2 and Tunnel Gate closed. Pavement 3 will remain open to the sidewalk.”

The event took place outside the building on the Metro Bus Platform, a major gateway to the Pentagon, where thousands of people enter and exit the building daily.

The bus platform is used by many bus routes in the area.

Reported to be injured

Pentagon spokesman Chris Lehmann declined to comment on whether the attacker was involved or whether people were injured. . Patient status was not provided immediately.

A defense official said the incident took place at the Pentagon while Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin and General Mark Mille, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, were attending a scheduled daily summary and intelligence update meeting with President Joe Biden at the White House.

The officer said the scene of the incident was “still a very active scene” for investigators. Pentagon officials will “fully cooperate with local and federal officials,” the official added. Austin is now away “for respect” to investigators who have to work.

Public transportation is suspended in the area

The shooting at the Pentagon bus stop halted public transportation to the public compound.
