Housing leaders, developers and policymakers across Oklahoma are set to convene for a major industry event focused on expanding affordable and accessible housing options for the state’s rapidly growing older population.

The full-day conference will bring together stakeholders from across the housing ecosystem, including lenders, nonprofits, service providers and government officials, as pressure mounts to address shortages in suitable homes for older residents.

Organisers say the event comes at a critical time, with demographic trends driving increased demand for housing that supports ageing in place while remaining financially viable for residents and developers alike.

The event announcement states: “Oklahoma’s senior population is growing, and many older adults face challenges accessing housing that is affordable, accessible, and supportive. This event brings together leaders and practitioners to explore practical strategies that expand aging-friendly housing across Oklahoma.”

Industry collaboration and investment focus

The conference will also serve as a platform for private and public sector organisations to position themselves within the expanding senior housing market, which is attracting growing attention from investors and developers nationwide.

According to the organisers, “Position your organization as a leader in senior housing and aging-in-place solutions while connecting directly with developers, lenders, and policymakers.”

Sponsors will be offered branding and networking opportunities, including logo recognition across marketing materials, complimentary event registrations and exhibition space. The event is also designed to facilitate direct engagement between capital providers and housing developers seeking to advance new projects or retrofit existing homes.

The conference is being coordinated by Housing for Communities, which is working to convene stakeholders capable of shaping the state’s housing strategy.

Data, policy and development strategies on the agenda

A central component of the programme will focus on data-driven analysis of housing supply and demand, providing attendees with an evidence-based overview of current and future needs.

Organisers said the session titled Statewide Housing Data & Research will focus on “Grounding the conversation in data examining Oklahoma’s senior housing supply, demand, and emerging gaps shaping future housing needs.”

Policy discussions will also examine planning and regulatory considerations affecting development.

The event description notes a Policy Discussion & Community Solutions session will provide: “A collaborative discussion exploring zoning considerations, housing types, and policy strategies supporting aging-friendly communities across rural and urban Oklahoma.”

Accessibility improvements and home adaptation will be another key focus, reflecting growing demand for housing that allows residents to remain in their homes as they age.

The organisers said the Home Modifications & Accessibility session will cover: “Practical approaches to aging in place through accessibility improvements, visitability standards, and funding resources supporting home modifications.”

Financing remains a significant barrier to delivering new senior housing, and the conference will include guidance on capital access and partnerships.

The Financing Tools & Development Strategies session is described as: “An overview of financing tools and partnerships advancing senior housing development, rehabilitation programs, and evolving funding opportunities.”

Market opportunity amid demographic change

The senior housing sector is widely viewed as a major growth area within the wider residential property market, driven by ageing populations and shifting household needs.

Developers, lenders and institutional investors are increasingly assessing opportunities to deliver housing aligned with accessibility standards and supportive services.

At the same time, policymakers face mounting pressure to ensure affordability, particularly in regions where incomes have not kept pace with housing costs.

By bringing together stakeholders from across the housing value chain, organisers aim to accelerate practical solutions and partnerships capable of expanding supply.

Early-bird registration for the event is currently open, with organisers urging participants to confirm attendance promptly.

The event notice states: “Early-Bird Registration Now Open — $75. Secure your spot today and save before March 31.”

Industry observers say the conference reflects broader efforts across the United States to address structural housing challenges linked to demographic change, affordability constraints and evolving accessibility standards.

Outcomes from the event are expected to help inform future development strategies, investment priorities and housing policy across Oklahoma’s senior living sector.
