OKLAHOMA CITY — Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt has appointed Doyle Province, a long-standing figure in the state’s mortgage and financial services sector, as a member of the Oklahoma Housing Finance Agency (OHFA) board of trustees. Province, a resident of Oklahoma City, succeeds Roger Beverage and will serve a term running until May 2026.

The appointment places Province at the heart of one of Oklahoma’s most significant housing policy bodies, which plays a central role in financing and facilitating affordable housing projects across the state. The OHFA, a self-supporting public agency, administers a range of housing programmes and bond initiatives designed to support low and moderate-income residents in accessing affordable homes. Trustees, who are appointed by the governor, volunteer their time to ensure the agency’s resources are deployed effectively and in the public interest.

A Veteran of Mortgage and Lending

Province’s selection reflects a career that spans more than three decades in mortgage lending, characterised by leadership and sustained commitment to the housing finance industry. Having retired in 2022 from his role as Vice President of Mortgage Lending at Weokie Federal Credit Union, Province brings both experience and institutional knowledge to the OHFA board. His three decades with Weokie mark him as one of the state’s most seasoned professionals in the mortgage credit sector.

During his tenure at Weokie, Province oversaw significant developments in the credit union’s mortgage operations, guiding lending policy through periods of both economic expansion and market volatility. He is widely regarded in Oklahoma’s financial community as a figure of steady expertise and practical insight into home financing, regulatory standards, and consumer lending trends.

Industry Leadership and Professional Recognition

Province also served as president of the Oklahoma Mortgage Bankers Association between 2010 and 2011, where he played a key role in representing the interests of mortgage professionals and financial institutions within the state. His leadership during that period was marked by initiatives aimed at strengthening professional standards and improving dialogue between lenders, regulators, and policymakers.

A graduate of Southwestern Oklahoma State University, Province has consistently supported efforts to expand access to responsible home ownership, particularly among first-time buyers and lower-income families. His appointment to the OHFA board is therefore viewed as a strategic addition, bringing a practitioner’s perspective to the agency’s oversight and decision-making process.

Commitment to Affordable Housing

Appointed by the governor, OHFA trustees volunteer their time to ensure the agency serves Oklahomans in need of affordable housing. The governor’s office said Province’s experience would contribute significantly to the board’s ongoing mission of providing fair and sustainable housing solutions across the state.

The Oklahoma Housing Finance Agency operates several major programmes, including mortgage credit initiatives, rental assistance schemes, and housing development finance. These programmes are intended to address the state’s housing affordability challenges, an issue that has gained renewed importance amid rising interest rates and housing costs across the United States.

Strategic Significance of the Appointment

By appointing a veteran lender such as Province, Governor Stitt has signalled an emphasis on practical experience and financial prudence in the management of housing resources. Observers of Oklahoma’s housing sector note that the appointment aligns with the state’s broader push to balance fiscal responsibility with social objectives in public housing policy.

Province’s blend of private-sector experience and industry leadership positions him to play an influential role in shaping the agency’s strategic priorities in the coming years. His tenure is expected to focus on ensuring that mortgage finance remains accessible and that the OHFA continues to collaborate effectively with both state government and private lenders.

As he assumes his position on the board, Province joins a team of trustees tasked with navigating complex housing market conditions while ensuring that the agency’s mission — to serve Oklahomans in need of affordable housing — remains at the centre of its operations.
