Boston Red Sox outfielder Jaren Duran has been suspended for two games after making a homophobic slur at a fan during Sunday's game.
His suspension, according to journalist Jeff Bassan, is effective immediately and he will miss this Monday's game against the Texas Rangers.
“During the game tonight, I used a really horrible word when responding to a fan.”Duran said in a statement issued by the group. “I feel terrible knowing how many people I have hurt and disappointed. I apologize to the entire Red Sox organization, but more importantly, to the entire LGBTQ community. “Our young fans can look to me as a role model, but tonight I was far from that responsibility.”

The Boston team has been smart about handling this communication crisis and disclosed that they contacted their outfielder about the issue.
“The Red Sox addressed the incident with Jaren immediately after today's game. “We echo Jaran's apology to our fans, especially the LGBTQ community,” The team said.
“We strive to be an organization that welcomes all fans to Fenway Park and will continue to educate our staff, players, coaches and staff on the importance of inclusion.”
