The first woman chosen by the European Space Agency to be an astronaut, Sarah Garcia, visited the city of Almendralejo, where she participated this morning in an event at the Carolina Coronado Theater on the occasion of the “Women and Science” competition that is launched every year. By the Center for Teachers and Resources (CPR). The molecular biologist herself expressed her happiness at this event, and added that she sought to learn from the participating students what the research had taught them and to know their impressions.

In this sense, he indicated that the goal of his intervention in front of more than 600 students who attended was to convey to them that “you can fight for your dreams.” The scientist, who narrated her experience to the audience, stated that “there are no professions for boys and girls,” encouraging those interested in science, adding that it is “an exciting outlet that works to improve people’s lives.”

The mayor of Almendralejo, José María Ramírez, received the biologist along with the Minister of Education, Mercedes Vaquera, who expressed her gratitude for transmitting her “interest and enthusiasm” to the young people. In addition, she highlighted her CV and role as a cancer researcher, adding that she is “an example of women who have broken barriers.” Representatives of municipalities, the Government of Extremadura and the Extremadura Assembly itself also attended the meeting organized by the Committee of Permanent Representatives.
