Managua’s “Augusto C. Santino” International Airport has received 28 commercial flights carrying passengers from Port-au-Prince, Haiti in the last 48 hours, local press reported this Saturday.

Citing the official flight arrival schedule of Nicaragua’s state-owned International Airport Management Agency (EAAI), the Article 66 portal reports that 12 flights from Port-au-Prince landed at the Nicaraguan airport on Friday and 16 flights arrived this Saturday. .

Nicaraguan officials have not announced whether they have opened a new flight route between Port-au-Prince and Managua.

First flight

The first flight from Haiti to Nicaragua on Friday was Sunrise Airline flight S6-236, which landed at 11:56 a.m. (17:56 GMT). The second Sarba Airline flight was HK-5331.

Airlines responsible for operating commercial flights from Haiti to Nicaragua include AirCentury, Atlantic, Magni, Sarba Siarga, Sky High and Sunrise. They do it this way which is not official.

In addition to flights from Port-au-Prince, the official EAAI schedule records flights from the Caribbean island of Providenciales, Turks and Caicos Islands, which do not have an open route with Managua.

For its part, the Nicaraguan newspaper La Prensa pointed out that “the massive influx of Haitians and Africans who use Nicaragua as an incentive for their journey to the United States continues.”

10 to 20 flights daily

According to the media, daily between 10 and 20 flights land at Managua International Airport, capable of carrying 50 to 200 passengers and usually citizens of Haiti, Providenciales, Dominican Republic and Cuba and African countries.

This Saturday, 15 flights from Port-au-Prince, 3 flights from the Dominican Republic, 2 flights from Cuba and 2 flights from Providenciales Island are scheduled to enter Nicaragua, La Prensa reported.

Last Thursday, the Nicaraguan government pointed to “false propaganda and distorted messages about the so-called ‘American dream’ in the United States, economic benefits and dreams, which encourage irregular immigration to the north of the American country.”

The chancellor warned of irregular migration flows

In the document, the Nicaraguan Ministry of Foreign Affairs warned that this promotion of irregular migration “threatens the lives of migrants and the security of transit communities, encouraging organized crime.”

In that speech, “Nicaragua’s position to prepare a plan to focus on migrant flows”, the Nicaraguan executive pointed out that there are structural reasons for an economic, social and cultural order that directly or indirectly encourages immigration. These reasons are “in a comprehensive manner for better attention to the phenomenon of migration.”

This Saturday, eight opposition organizations in Nicaragua accused Daniel Ortega’s government of aiding and “trading” the Central American country in irregular migration to the United States.
