Arescu: Romania condemns the arrest of Navalny in Russia and the suppression of protests

Foreign Minister Bokhton Aresque recalled in Brussels on Monday that Romania had condemned the arrest and suppression of demonstrations in support of Russian rival Alexei Navalny in Russia. The head of Romanian diplomacy said at a meeting of foreign ministers from EU countries that the adoption of sanctions against the Putin regime would be discussed after the protests this weekend.

“I reiterate the fact that Romania has condemned the arrest of Navalny as unacceptable. I reiterate our view that the repression of the Opposition is unacceptable and undemocratic because it is in opposition. The Romanian minister said the talks would also address the possibility of accepting sanctions in the case.

“This weekend we have seen a resolute and aggressive attitude against protesters in many Russian cities. The legislature and freedom of expression are very important. “EU ministers will also talk about EU partners’ vaccine delivery strategy,” he said, referring to our country’s position on the issue.

“As you know, Romania fully supports a mechanism to assist the Western Balkans, but the Eastern Alliance, so that they can benefit from the vaccines provided by the EU.
