SAN FRANCISCO — LaMonte Wade Jr. singled out despite center fielder Miles Straw’s diving attempt to catch him in the 10th inning, scoring the decisive run in Blake Sabol, and the San Francisco Giants beat the Cleveland Guardians 5-4 on Monday.
The win moves Arizona back a half game in the race for the third wild card in the National League. San Francisco picked up its fourth win after six losses.
Cleveland suffered its third straight loss and is seven and a half games behind Minnesota, which leads the American League Central.
The Guardians took the lead in the top of the 10th inning, but San Francisco answered with two runs and won its final game for the sixth time this season.
Luke Jackson (2-2) earned the win after allowing one hit and one run in one inning on the mound.
Cleveland closer Emmanuel Glass (2-9) took the loss after allowing two hits and several runs.
On behalf of the Guardians, Dominican Jose Ramirez scored one goal, 4-0; Jose Deña 4-1. Venezuela’s Andres Gimenez is 5-2 with an RBI.
For the Giants, Venezuela’s Wilmar Flores is 2-1; Tyro Estrada 5-1, one goal; Luis Matos 4-0.
