The Yankees’ prized Dominican prospect Jason Dominguez picked up the first hit of his major league career on Friday — a two-run homer in the first inning off Astros ace Justin Verlander.
The 20-year-old slugger, one of the most anticipated prospects in recent years, missed a curveball from the future Hall of Famer at first for a called strike.
The right-hander then challenged Dominguez with a 94.3 mph fastball into the heart of the Dominican plate that the Dominican promptly sent over the left-field wall. According to Statcast, the shot left his bat at 100.2 miles per hour and traveled 360 feet.
