TORONTO – Toronto FC manager Chris Armas was beaten 7-1 by DC United on Sunday, the club’s sixth defeat.
With a first-year manager, Toronto (1-8-2) have failed to win seven games and are bottom of the league with 27 teams.
Toronto is in the middle of the second worst start of a season. It was only in 2012, when the club lost its first nine games and reached five points on Day 13 (1-10-2), that it had a bad sign.
Toronto have had a number of problems this year, forcing them to try to get back into club sports.
The team, which conceded goals in two and eight minutes in the game against DC United on Saturday, came up with eight goals allowed in the first 15 minutes of a game, which is the worst sign of the league. The team is 0-7-1 when conceding the first goal.
Toronto are last in the league, scoring 2.45 goals per game.
The team had to travel to the United States for a second season in a row due to travel restrictions due to the epidemic.
Armas, 48, was named Toronto’s 10th coach on Jan. 13.
As an elite midfielder, Armas spent 12 years at MLS – with two LA Galaxy and 10 Chicago Fire FC. In 1998 he won the MLS Cup and the US Open Cup for the Fire and Expansion Team. He won the Supporting Shield in 2003, and three other Chicago titles at the Lamar Hunt US Open (2000, 2003, 2006).
