Mark David Chapman, John Lennon's killer, commemorated his 69th birthday on May 10. This man took the life of a 40-year-old musician in New York on December 8, 1980. Chapman was sentenced to life in prison and continues to serve his sentence.

A life sentence means David will spend the rest of his life in prison with the possibility of a parole hearing. However, since entering the Attica Correctional Facility, it has never been served.

At its first hearing, the board determined that Chapman's acquittal was unlikely given the seriousness and scale of his crime. He was again denied parole this year.

In several sessions where David requested it, arguments were presented indicating that his reintegration into the community was unlikely, including the risk of recidivism.

The junta believes the attack on John Lennon's life was premeditated and carefully planned. Additionally, they argued that his release would violate US law and reduce the severity of casualties in the country.

Despite the denials, Chapman continues to seek parole, maintaining good behavior and clinging to his Christian faith in seeking forgiveness, although he practiced this religious faith before the crime.

Even after his arrest, Chapman declared that he had hated Lennon since 1966, when the singer made his famous claim that “The Beatles are more famous than Jesus Christ,” and the lyrics of some of his songs, particularly “God.” “Imagination”, which in his opinion defied belief. He said Lennon was a “hypocrite” and led a promiscuous lifestyle that “forced him to be punished”.
