Two men were arrested for allegedly falsifying Nacho’s book and other texts

SANTO DOMINGO, DR.

The Public Ministry requested compulsory measures against Santiago Aristides Valdes Payano and Diogenes Alvarez Brito, accused of the mass reproduction and illegal commercialization, copyright and intellectual property rights violations of the “Nacho Dominicano” book and other reading materials.

The accused organization requested the Judicial Office of Permanent Probation Services to impose an economic bond of 100 thousand pesos each and to be barred from leaving the country from time to time.

The two were arrested while reprinting large-scale copies of the books “Nacho Dominicano” and “Learning to Read with Maria and Manuel” from the publisher Suseta, and the book “Calligraphia Dominicana” from Ediciones MB.

The Public Ministry seized 511 metal plates with images of Nacho, reams of printed pages in the binding process, 78 cards of Dominican calligraphy, a copy of Learning to Read with Maria and Manuel, as well as various printing and binding materials.

According to the application document submitted by prosecutor Jesse James Ventura Ovalles, both defendants violated articles 20 and 169, number 2, letters b, c and f of Law 65-00, which criminalizes copyright, distribution and sale. A work without acknowledgment of the author.
