Tornado hits Playa Baracoa, causing damage in its path (+VIDEO)

In the afternoon of this Thursday, October 19, 2023, the town of Playa Baracoa, in the municipality of Bauta, was surprised by a typhoon that unleashed a series of unusual weather events.

The Artemisa Provincial Meteorological Center issued Meteorological Note No. 02 to report on the event.

The cyclone appeared at 05:55 PM, but its impact was felt from 03:40 to 04:00 PM, causing heavy rain, thundershowers and strong winds in the area.

His career covers a distance of about one and a half kilometers from the Heros de Cangamba Elementary School to the town of La Loma.

Despite its short duration and classification as an EF0, with sustained winds of 125 to 137 km/h according to the Enhanced Fujita Scale, the tornado caused widespread destruction in its wake. Power supply was disrupted, roofs partially collapsed in La Loma and trees were uprooted in the area.

The origin of this weather phenomenon is attributed to strong diurnal warming, high moisture content and local instability conditions. Additionally, the presence of an upper trough in the Gulf of Mexico contributed to hurricane formation.
