Peru’s president has taken another step in escalating diplomatic tensions with regional governments. The decision, a deepening indictment of relations between the two countries, was compounded by the expulsion of Pablo Monroe, who was Mexico’s ambassador to Peru until late last year. In a further twist of tension, López Obrador refused to hand over the presidency of the Pacific Alliance, a trade coordination mechanism formed by Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru, to Polwart.
