This Is The Most Visible Human Structure From Space (It's Not The Great Wall Of China) – Teach Me About Science

Have you ever wondered if you can see any features of humanity from space? The answer is yes, and this is not the Great Wall of China, nor any building created with high technology. The answer will surprise you, said one astronaut.

Throughout the existence of mankind, it has been responsible for creating magnificent buildings that have been passed down from generation to generation to this day, and are so magnificent that some of them can even be observed from space.

We have monuments of colossal buildings, such as colossal ancient civilizations that were forgotten, stories like the massive Tower of Babel, and even structures that still stand today, like the Great Wall of China or the pyramids of Egypt. However, none of these structures are the largest that can be seen from space.

but, What is the largest building that can be seen from space?

Many may think that it is a building that reaches the sky, but the truth is that this building has an area of about 30 thousand hectares, is located in the south of the Iberian Peninsula, and can be seen from space, whether by astronauts or by satellites orbiting the Earth.

Of course, we are talking about the greenhouses of Almería, a structure located in a Spanish community called Andalusia. These greenhouses are known locally as 'Farmers' Land' and 'Europe's Orchard'.

This agricultural land is home to the world's largest concentration of greenhouses, where a wide range of fruits, vegetables and more are grown. Food from which no less than 2.5 million tons of fruits and vegetables are grown.

Among all the crops, we find tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, zucchini, cucumbers, green beans, watermelon and watermelon, in addition to the presence of ornamental flowers such as roses, chrysanthemums, cloves and other plants, according to the official platform of Horticultural systems Almeria.

To confirm this fact, we have statements by some astronauts from various space missions, who testified about this fact, and confirmed that the greenhouses in Almeria are indeed the human construction that can be seen most from space.

First, we have the testimony of Spanish space engineer Pedro Duque, who had the opportunity to go into space in 1998 on the STS-95 space mission of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's Space Shuttle Discovery, also known as a pot. Engineer Duque confirms that the appearance of the greenhouses is almost perfect, and their definition and size are unambiguous.

After this first astronaut, we have Astronaut Michael Lopez Alegría, an astronaut who has participated in many space missions and had the honor of commanding the International Space Station.

Michael backed up what Pedro actually said, because the Almería desert is white and kilometers long on the Spanish coast, it is impossible not to notice it, says López Alegría.

Classified by NASA as a 'Sea of Greenhouses', this area has been built since the 1960s, launched solely as a means of testing outdoor and indoor growing techniques, growing over time and becoming what we know today as the world's largest structure visible from space.
