As part of International Women's Day activities, students of the Hermosillo Technological Institute (ITH) painted a mural bearing the image of Alice Augusta Pole, the scientist and chemist who developed the only effective treatment against leprosy until 1940. .

The mural is located on one of the walls of the Institute's Electronic Engineering Building and will consist of 24 pictures of women who made history in the science and technology branches.

“For me, it is a pride to be the one who will capture something that represents for students and women in general, equality and that they feel represented, because what is commemorated on this day is that value that should be given to women for their work and their studies,” said muralist Abelardo Moreno. .

He explained that the mural is 8.5 meters long and seven meters high, and acrylic paint is used to take pictures on the cement wall, and the work will take approximately six months to complete.

Students María Soto Ortiz and Julissa Solís, from the State High School College (Cubach) and the Center for the Baccalaureate of Agricultural Technology (CBTA), were responsible for creating the first brush stroke on the mural.

Representing Rogelio Noriega Vargas, Director of ITH, Martha Alicia Velasquez Ortega, Deputy Director of Planning and Communication, emphasized that women are not only the pillar of the family, but are also builders of a society aimed at shared well-being, and interest and commitment have made them go beyond knowledge and excel in the fields of science and technology.

“This work is important as equity, so that the entire society knows the female scientists who changed history, and that is why women invent, discover and explore the unknown,” she said.

During the event, a group photo was taken with the young people as part of the annual “Women in Engineering” activity, and workshops on science and technology were also held.
