The Trump system will be taxed

(CNN) – The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office is expected to file charges Thursday against former President Donald Trump and its chief financial officer, Alan Weiselberg. Charges will be levied for tax offenses related to various benefits offered to employees, The Wall Street Journal.

Although Trump faced numerous hearings by federal and state prosecutors during his administration, the district attorney’s office accused his company, the Trump organization, of criminal conduct.

His lawyer said Trump was not expected to be charged.

The Wall Street Journal was the first to report The charges are expected to be released on Thursday. A spokeswoman for Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance declined to comment. The Trump organization’s attorney did not respond to a request for comment. Weiselberg’s attorney, Mary Mulligan, did not respond to a request for comment.

The allegations come after Trump organization lawyers met with lawyers twice in recent days to present arguments as to why the company should not face criminal charges.

They will come after more than two years of investigation, beginning with an accounting-related investigation into secret payments made by former Trump attorney Michael Cohen, and expanding to include questions about whether the company or some employees have paid property taxes.
