New Orleans International High School (IHSNO) student Dennis Barnes has set a new American record with more than 125 college offers and nearly 9 million in scholarships.

The number of scholarships awarded to Dennis Barnes has broken the mark established in the Guinness Book of Records. New Orleans Times-Picayune.

The previous record was set by another student from Lafayette, Louisiana who received $8.7 million in scholarships in 2019.

The IHSNO announced that it is seeking to formalize Barnes’ induction into the Guinness Book of Records and expects the total to exceed $10 million as scholarship offers have yet to arrive.

The mayor of New Orleans, LaToya Cantrell, congratulated Barnes through her networks. “You are a true inspiration to high school students across the country. Show them what New Orleans can do!”, his Twitter account tweeted.

Who is Dennis Barnes?

Barnes, who will graduate May 24, maintains a 4.98 GPA and is president of the National Honor Society, which brings together students from across the country.

The young man achieved a very high level in his Spanish studiesCertified by the Instituto Cervantes, and received the Jose Luis Baños Award for Excellence in Spain from María Paje, Honorary Consul of Spain in New Orleans, according to Thegrio.com.

The student seeks to specialize in technology and criminal justice New Orleans Times-Picayune, Barnes began earning credits through Southern University in New Orleans two years before graduating high school. Barnes plans to announce his college choice on May 2, according to the newspaper.

The student advises other youths who want to follow a similar path to be aware.
