The Dwights Glacier, located in western Antarctica, is the widest on Earth, extending about 120 km and having a depth of 800 to 1,200 m in its contact range, where the glacier becomes an iceberg connected to land. Amundsen is a layer of ice floating in the ocean.

Dwights is sometimes referred to as the “Doomsday Glacier” because its eruption could trigger a layer of glacial slopes in Antarctica, and recent research on the frozen continent suggests more destruction.
