SANTIAGO DE LOS CABALLEROS.-?President Luis Abinader, together with Minister of Public Works Deligne Ascención, presided over the inauguration of the new entrance to the city of Santiago this Saturday. .
Minister Ascension explained that the work to create the gateway to Santiago is part of the comprehensive reconstruction, expansion and modernization project of the Duarte Highway.
These include road improvement and widening, beautification of the entire route, construction of drainage and canals for water flow, removal of electric lights and high voltage towers.
Also, land grabbing and development, as well as clearing of illegal encroachments and improved incomes, have affected the environment and created an untidy urban environment.
“This project represents the most important investment of the Dominican government in road infrastructure works, which is the country’s main means of communication, directly crosses 14 provinces, and directly affects the economic and social development of our country,” Ascención highlighted.
He said that the section of the highway that covers the entrance to Santiago is eight kilometers long, and from the Hotellpa Hotel entrance to the Monument to the Heroes of the Restoration, the road has been converted into an urban highway. Six lanes, three in each direction, and a width of 28.8 meters.
The entire route is illuminated with modern signs, both to orient and warn and regulate the intense traffic that passes through this road, with turns guaranteeing the safety of drivers and passengers.
“At the crossing points with traffic lights, the safety of pedestrians is guaranteed and the regulated movement of vehicles at the distributors exits towards Zarkanvalasian Avenue or Chibao International Airport, in some sections, a small relief road with its sidewalks and barriers is guaranteed. Integrating local traffic with express flow circulating on the entrance highway,” He explained.
The transformation and modernization of the new avenue gives the heart city a first-world urban environment, the official said.
