The case against Wanda Vasquez was assigned to a presiding judge in federal court in San Juan.

Case against ex-governor Wanda Vasquez GarstuVenezuelan banker Julio Herrera Velutini and former FBI agent Mark Rossini Appointed to the Chief Judgeship of the Federal District Court in San Juan, Raul Arias Marxwach.

In an unusual move in federal court, the appointment came after two judges recused themselves from the case.

According to the electronic file, the court system originally assigned the case to Judge Aida Delgado Colon.

On the same day, Delgado Colón issued an order stating that he “disqualifies himself from this case and from all proceedings within it.”

Subsequently, the case was “randomly transferred” to Judge Francisco Pezosa, the court clerk said in the filing. However, on Thursday, Bezos also issued an order to “resign from presiding over this case”.

The reasons why Delgado Colón and Besosa decided to recuse themselves were not specified.

On Thursday, the Secretariat notified Judge Arias Marxwak that “this case has been inadvertently moved into the case allocation system.”

As for the judge hearing the case, Arias Marxuach earned a bachelor’s degree from Boston College in 1989 and a doctorate from the University of Puerto Rico (UPR) School of Law in 1992. Graduated with Master of Laws in 1994. University from Harvard, then worked as a lawyer in various law firms in Puerto Rico until 2019.

He was also Adjunct Professor at the Law School of the Interamerican University of Puerto Rico in 2011, 2013 and 2016.

Arias Marxuach will be sworn in as Chief Judge of the Federal Court for the District of Puerto Rico in October 2021. Judge Gustavo Kelpi Began his duties as a member of the Court of Appeals for the First Circuit in Boston.
