Temazcal Colliber: A space for family life and connection with nature

Tlalnelhuayocan, Ver.- (AVC) Among indigenous peoples, temazcal baths were of medicinal and ritual importance. For five years, the Colibrí de la Montaña sought to create a similar space to restore this pre-Hispanic past while promoting family coexistence and reconnecting spiritually.

A space for family life and contact with nature
Temazcal Kolibrí is located in Tlalnelhuayocan Municipality. Once you arrive, you will be enchanted by the landscape of the area: the plants, the sound of birds and the nearby river.

“We have worked for five years and we have a mission to make it traditional. This is a general feature of family life, for people who choose to go into nature, and find those kinds of unique traditions that can only be found in areas like this,” explains Sergio Cortina Landa, representative of the association cooperative.

In that sense, Cortina Landa recommends that visitors arrive one hour before sessions begin (weekends at 3:00 p.m.) to prepare and enjoy guided visits to nearby sites such as Giacalot Waterfall. “It’s a tour with a great view.”

Regarding the ritual itself, Cortina Landa explains that they specialize in four-door sessions “We offer Temazcal with traditional water vapor, apart from being very beneficial for health, it helps organs and cells to get rid of daily stress or routine, apart from that, is family life”.

Nice experience
Kolibrí temazcal has served as a personal meeting place, but has also created a community of people who meet every weekend to relax with these traditional baths.

Such is the case of Ms. Carmen Cedeno, who has been going to Temazcal every weekend for four years “it rejuvenated me, and healed me,” she says, highlighting these baths’ skincare qualities.

Something similar commented on Narcisa Carmona Carmona, who visits Temazcal whenever her pocket allows it “When I arrived I looked like a 90-year-old, but God put Colibri in my way and thanks to that I’m better”.

Juan Vázquez Morales also shared his testimony. He remembered that he was very ill, and along with his medical treatment decided to try temazcal baths, which obviously help to restore his health.

Temazcal Kolibrí sessions are available every Saturday, at 3:00 pm, or you can contact them on Facebook to request a specific service during the week.

Those who visit Temazcal Kolibrí over time can take a three-hour trek to Jiyacalote Waterfall, which includes a mountain tour, which offers a panoramic view of the area.

If they don’t have time, visitors can stroll the green of Colibri Cooperative, visit a small New Zealand giant rabbit farm or quail farm, recently established by Rosario Moctezuma, a lawyer who left her office to take shelter in mountain life.
