“Every year, we hear about a problem with WhatsApp that puts everything on its users’ devices at risk. That means there is already a new security flaw. Such problems are not accidental: they are planted within the doors. If a back door is found and needs to be removed, another one will be added,” he began his speech.

Durov continued his criticism, “It doesn’t matter if you’re the richest person in the world: if you have WhatsApp installed on your phone, you can access all your data from every app on your device. Jeff Bezos invented in 2020. That’s why I deleted WhatsApp from my devices years ago. If it’s installed, it creates a gateway to your phone.”

Finally, the founder of Telegram said that it was not a lobbying campaign to leave WhatsApp and go to his social network.

“I’m not here to force people to switch to Telegram. With over 700 million active users and over 2 million daily registrations, Telegram doesn’t need more advertising. You can use any messaging app you want, but stay away from WhatsApp – it’s been a tracking tool for 13 years now.”
