Surprises and omissions in the call for Honduras against Canada, El Salvador and the United States

San Pedro Sula, Honduras.

This Friday, Hernான்n ‘Polillo’ Gomez presented the list of 26 footballers who have been called up for matches against Canada, El Salvador and the United States in connection with the Concacaf qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The Colombian coach reported several reports that Honduras Progresso midfielder Christian Sakasa has received his first call-up to the senior national team.

The first invitees to the knockout tournament were Wisdom Cue and Devron Garcia, both Real Espana players.

Both footballers were called up for a friendly match against Colombia. Eventually, the right-hander could not go to the United States for that confirmation because he did not have the vaccine complete, and defender Garcia was called to the emergency room to replace Alan Vargas, who left due to Covit-19.

Christian Saxa stood alone with the Honduran Progresso last year and was close to going abroad to try.

Jonathan Rubio stands alone on the attendance list. Portugal’s Academica de Coumbra striker has not been called up for the November tournament due to technical issues. Kevin Lopez is also back, now a new player for Communicaciones de Guatemala.

The list does not include the names of Panetolikos’ Deiby Flores of the Greek Super League, and Costa Rica’s Alajuelense’s midfielder Alex López.

Andy Nazar was also not invited on this occasion as he refused to accept the invitation at the November games. The footballer explained that he could not come due to ill health.

Other players left out of the list are Kevin Alvarez, Real Espana’s right-back, Eddie Hernandez, striker for Olympia, as well as Mottagua defenders Carlos Melandes and Marcelo Pereira.

‘Bolillo’ Gómez did not mention Luis Palma either, as he had recently signed with Aris Thessaloniki of Greece and had to travel to Europe to finalize all the details of his transfer and presentation.
