Shazam turns 20 and features a very “Shazam” song

This Friday, August 19, Shazam 20 years old and has been part of the past five years ManjanaCelebrating it by providing interesting statistics about the song title search app.

The app has helped discover new and old artists and revitalize certain genres. Indeed, Shazam illustrations have also become a barometer of unexpected moments in pop culture. “Running Up That Hill,” featured on Kate Bush’s 1985 hit “Stranger Things,” led to the singer’s all-time high on Shazam, with the song reaching #1 on the Shazam Global Top 200 for 10 days. It reached the top 25 national charts in 2022, more than any other song.

Important days

  • August 2002: Shazam starts out as a UK-based texting service. At that time, users could identify songs by dialing “2580” on their phone and grab it as a song. They were then sent an SMS with the title of the song and the name of the artist.
  • July 2008: Shazam Launches New App Store Shazam released its Android version in October 2008.
  • April 2015: Shazam is first available on Apple Watch.
  • September 2018: Shazam joins the Apple family.
  • June 2021: Shazam has surpassed 1 billion Shazams per month.
  • May 2022: Shazam surpasses 2 billion lifetime installs.
  • August 2022: Shazam celebrates 20 years of musical innovation and reaches 70 billion Shazams of all time.
