San Martín del Agostedo opens “eco.space” for the International Environmental Training Center

Opening this Sunday in San Martín del Agostedo, with the concert “Somos Tierra” by Noria Anton and John Fillingham, CI: ECO activity space, envisioned as an “eco.space” space where living things interact and consisting of a pavilion or summer pavilion as well to recently renovated barns.

The objectives of the “Centro Internacional Ecoformativo San Martín del Agostedo” are, on the one hand, to raise the environmental awareness of the citizens of Maragatería and the surrounding lands through citizen interventions, providing a forum for discussion, orientation workshops linked to the preservation of rural heritage and traditional resources of the territory, or through ecological or other readings of activities.

In accordance with this idea of preservation, natural materials and traditional techniques were used in the reconstruction of the haystacks and the agora/shrine (“yueta”). The complex is an art space as it is integrated without noise into the landscape and at the same time it is integrated into the art/life space.

The opening of this “environmental” space coincided with the beginning of the cycle “Nature, Women and Society”. It is a private initiative, with an international vocation, that stems from the personal relationships between Hamburg, the city of Andy Schmidt (who lives in San Martin del Agostedo) and Kiel with its university and Maragateria.

This project seeks and values the relationship with public institutions and society.
