Reuniting appreciation, dedication, and science around orchids, the 16th National Orchid Gallery becomes part of the 7th Festival of Orchids, Coffee and the Arts in Recinto del Pensamiento de Manizales. The country’s 10 orchid societies meet after a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Orchid Gallery is a sample of the beauty and science about this flower with orchidologists who value the plant not only for its ornamental value, but also research into multiple aspects such as development, cultivation, characteristics, and new flowers.

The following associations participate: Vallecaucana, Risaraldense, Quindiana, Tolimense, Colombian Orchidological Association, Medellín, Bogotana, Guadalajara de Buga Orchidological Association (Orquibuga), Payanesa, Caldense Orchidological Association, host and general coordinator.

Also exhibiting is Alma del Bosque, from Medellin, which debuted with a dedicated orchid show at a national gallery. Daniel Pedraita, of the Alma del Bosque team also presented “Entre Flores Orquídeas,” a gem of the scientific literature on orchids.

More than 400 species and many cultivars adorn the woody pavilion of the Recinto del Pensamiento at this time, including the prize-winning plants of the Caldense Society of Orchidology and the Colombian Committee of Orchidology (CCO). The 16th National Orchid Exhibition marks the re-start of the calendar of the country’s National Orchid Expositions.

The 7th Orchid, Coffee and Arts Festival concludes tomorrow. Open from 9:00 am to 8:00 pm. Tickets sold out until 6:00 pm.
