Medina was released on June 20 after 6 years of trial and 2 years of military imprisonment at Ramo Verde. However, Judge Peace overturned the conviction and ordered a new trial. Medina assured that the intention was to put him back in jail.

“You couldn't break me when I was in the Ramo Verde military prison (…) Now my voice is going to be heard internationally,” Medina declared in a video posted on his X account.

Medina said Judge Pease ordered that the trial record be expunged and that he did not appear at the June 20 hearing. He considers himself a victim of the “judicial terrorism” that is a precedent in all Venezuelan investigations.

The photojournalist vowed to continue fighting for justice and freedom of expression.
