ONEI denies violent robberies by pollsters

Violent robberies of alleged institutional pollsters in the province of Villa Clara were recently circulated on social networks.

However, the province’s Office of National Statistics and Information (ONEI) denied this information.

According to Henry Omar Perez Yera, provincial coordinator of the company’s communication and dissemination department, no criminal incident has been recorded so far. Villa Clara has much less to do with impersonation of pollsters.

However, the politburo, the government and the home ministry confirmed that there were no such allegations in view of the surge in complaints on social media.

In this sense, Henry Omar Perez Yera said that rumors are intended to create an imaginary social concern.

Meanwhile, the National Occupational Survey is conducted to collect data on employment and unemployment rates. It is also aimed at improving demographic and socioeconomic characteristics of the over-15 population.

The expert also pointed out that ONEI pollsters should be properly identified with vests and official government documents. Therefore, there is no need to allow interviewers to enter their homes.

In addition, it is important that people submit a formal complaint in case of any inappropriate behavior by interviewers so that disciplinary action can be taken. This was highlighted by ONEI Supervisor Myra Hernandez Fernandez.

In what context do these events occur?

Amidst a very complicated situation in the country, there are reports circulating on social media about the pollsters.

In recent weeks, similar attacks and robberies have occurred in various cities across the country. But, most unfortunate of all, in some of them they have unleashed disastrous consequences with serious injuries and fatalities.

Therefore, it is important for people to know what ONEI is and what its main functions are. It is an agency in charge of collecting, processing and disseminating statistical information and economic data in Cuba.

One of its main objectives is to generate data related to economy, population, employment, health, education and other sectors. Additionally, it is the agency responsible for conducting population and household censuses.
