LUMA urges elected officials to “leave the past behind” after demand to void Jenniffer González’s contract

Federation LUMA Energy Today, Friday pointed out that any vote by the Assembly in favor of canceling the contract with the energy company would be “beyond the scope of its authority” in response to the Citizen Commissioner’s revelations. LUMA explained that it was established by its contract Agreement for the Operation and Maintenance of the Transmission and Distribution System of Puerto RicoReviewed by Authority for Public-Private Partnerships (Processor)and directly aligned with financial plans Puerto Rico Oversight, Administration, and Economic Stability Act (PROMESA).

“We respectfully ask elected officials to put the past behind them, join hands with us and support the thousands of men and women of LUMA rebuilding the electricity system. We all share the responsibility to focus on making positive changes and work collaboratively to achieve a better energy future for all Puerto Ricans.”, advised Luma.

For his part, the Governor of Puerto Rico, Peter Pierluzziwho had already shared his displeasure with Luma, preferred not to be so blunt and told El Nuevo Dia that they Evaluating the performance of the consortium. “There must be a significant change in its operation. The Puerto Rico Energy Bureau It warned on Thursday that measurements of electricity service interruptions reflect that service has not improved since LUMA took over the operation of the country’s power transmission and distribution system in June 2021. They expect LUMA and PREPA to respond to their poor performance on or before September 1.

Luma replied that since they took over the transmission and distribution system of the country’s electricity system, we have focused on replacing the equipment and not just repairing it.

“Since LUMA took over the operation of the power system, we have focused not only on repairing but also replacing damaged components of the system. This comprehensive problem-solving approach has led to long-term outages, but will result in a more reliable and resilient infrastructure,” shared LUMA.
