(CNN) — Jeff Bezos is leaving the city where it all started for him.

Founder of Amazon Advertise on Instagram Who will move from Seattle, where he has lived since 1994, to Miami. He explained that his parents had recently moved to Florida, where he and his family lived when he was younger, and that he wanted to be closer to them.

“I’ve lived in Seattle longer than anywhere else and have a lot of great memories here,” Bezos wrote. “While this move is exciting, it is an emotionally charged decision for me. Seattle, you will always have a piece of my heart.”

the video Retro The Instagram post shows Bezos giving a tour of Amazon’s first “office,” a parking garage, in Bellevue, Washington. The three-bedroom house sold a few years ago for $1.5 million.

Amazon grew and developed in the state and became one of the largest companies in the world. The company is headquartered in nearby Seattle, where it employs more than 55,000 employees.

Another factor, Bezos said, is his space exploration company Blue Origin. “Its operations are increasingly moving toward Cape Canaveral,” which is about three hours north of Miami.

Bezos added: “I want to be close to my parents, and Lauren and I love Miami,” referring to his fiancée, Lauren Sanchez, who works closely with him on charitable projects.

“We are really great teammates and have a lot of fun together,” Sanchez told CNN in November 2022.

The couple recently purchased nearby mansions for $144 million in Biscayne Bay, Bloomberg reported. The area is known as the “Billionaire Bunker” and includes residents such as investor Carl Icahn and NFL star Tom Brady.

Unlike the measure upheld by the Washington Supreme Court, Florida does not impose a capital gains tax in the state, which is a plus for Bezos, who periodically sells Amazon shares.
