German carmaker Volkswagen suspends production in Brazil

Caracas. – The German multinational Volkswagen has announced the suspension of production of all its plants in Brazil due to the worsening epidemic that has already left more than 290,000 deaths and 11.8 million injuries.

The measure will take effect on March 24 and will run for 12 days, through April 4, at the company’s four plants in the South American giant.

According to a statement issued by the company, this decision was reached due to the conditions the country is going through in health matters, which added more than 90,500 new cases in the past hours. EFE.

In view of the increase in cases due to the pathogen and the increase in the occupation of intensive care units in the states, the company decided to adopt this measure in order to preserve the health of its employees and their families. According to Volkswagen, only basic activities will be preserved in the four factories in the country, three in the state of Sao Paulo and one in the state of Paraná, while employees of the administrative districts will carry out their tasks of working remotely, measures taken in agreement with the unions.

It won’t be the first time Volkswagen has suspended its activities due to the pandemic. It should be remembered that a year ago the German multinational company announced a three-week crippling of its units in the country.
